This year’s Special Committee is based on the British science-fiction series “Doctor Who” which is the world’s longest-running sci-fi series, having played on British television and all over the world from 1963 right up to the present day.
The story revolves around The Doctor, a Time Lord who travels in space and time in his TARDIS, which stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space. TARDIS is a ship that is bigger on the inside but looks like a small blue Metropolitan Police Box from the 1950's on the outside. The Doctor is usually accompanied by a companion, and battles the creatures like villainous Daleks and Cybermen as he endeavours to save the universe from evil.
There have been 13 Doctors in total thus far, as a result of regeneration (a biological process that allows The Doctor to stay alive but in another form that cause the brain cells to change that result in change of personality and appearance).
The committee will take place in multiple locations in the universe. These will also include various destinations on Earth. The plot will be based on an extraordinary event that urges the current Doctor to invoke the previous Doctors in order to solve the current chaos. The committee will be critical in the history of the universe as there is a force threatening our entire existence. The participants of the committee will not be representing countries as is common for an MUN conference, but will be representing some of the different faces of The Doctor, his mortal human companions, other Time Lords and villains. The Doctors and his companions will unite on this very special occasion to come up with ways to solve this enormous crisis that is threatening many galaxies.
Since each character has a different perspective towards each situation, the collaboration of the characters from unique time periods will be essential in taking actions. At this point, we recommend the delegates to watch some of the episodes of Doctor Who before the conference, in order to have an idea about the plot and their character. Bear in mind that it will be more useful to check out the new version of the series that first aired in 2005. All in all, we would like to remind you that this year’s Special Committee, The Union of The Time Lords, will traditionally be a crisis-based committee.
